Why Ember exists
I built Ember while watching my mum navigate perimenopause. What I saw wasn’t simply a list of symptoms. It was her trying to work out why her energy, mood, focus, sleep and body could feel completely different from one week to the next, with the answers scattered across different places.
She tracks things, researches constantly, asks questions, has had blood tests, has changed HRT, and keeps advocating for herself. But there was no simple way to see the whole picture and ask: what is actually changing, and is there a pattern here?
That’s where Ember began.
Massimo, founder
“For me, perimenopause hasn’t been one neat before-and-after story. It’s been a lot of detective work. There were times I didn’t recognise how I felt in my own body: my energy, brain fog, anxiety, focus, sleep. Then came HRT in different doses and forms, blood tests and, in 2025, an ADHD diagnosis at 49, and trying to understand how all of it might interact.
I’ve become very good at advocating for myself. But I shouldn’t need a spreadsheet, a brilliant memory and hours of research just to understand what’s been happening to me. I wanted somewhere to bring the pieces together. Not to tell me what’s wrong with me, but to help me see my own patterns clearly enough to have better conversations with people who often treat my symptoms one at a time, instead of seeing me as a whole person.”
Questions
Ember is a perimenopause symptom tracker for iPhone. Each day you log how you’re feeling, from hot flushes and night sweats to low mood, brain fog and joint aches, along with sleep, habits, bleeding and HRT. It takes about a minute. Ember then turns what you’ve logged into a report you can take to your GP or specialist.
No, deliberately. Ember organises what you log and shows it clearly. It doesn’t diagnose, explain causes or give medical advice. You and your doctor decide what it means.
A clear summary of the period you choose: which symptoms showed up most and how intense they were, your monthly check-in score, and optionally your sleep, habits, bleeding and HRT. You can share it as a PDF, print it, or show it on your phone.
Once a month, Ember asks how much each of your symptoms has bothered you over the past month, from “not at all” to “severely”, along with your sleep and your periods. Your answers give a score out of 100 that you can watch move on Trends, and it goes in your report. It’s Ember’s own set of questions, built on the symptoms you log each day. It isn’t a clinical test, and it doesn’t diagnose anything.
Yes, if you want it to. Turn on Apple Health in Ember’s settings and each day’s check-in starts with last night’s sleep and the day’s workouts already filled in, from your iPhone or Apple Watch. It’s read on your phone and never sent anywhere, and you can change anything it fills in.
What you log stays on your phone. There’s no account and no Ember server holding your logs, and they only leave your phone when you export a report or backup yourself. The app sends anonymous usage counts and crash reports, which never include anything you log. Read the privacy policy.
Yes. Ember is built for perimenopause, so it never assumes a regular cycle and never asks about fertility. You can log bleeding whenever it happens, and set HRT reminders on your own schedule.
